Teams & Users

Before Branco can start collecting feedback, you need to set up your org structure — teams and the people on them.


Setting up teams

Navigate to Teams in the admin sidebar to create your team structure.

For each team, you'll define:

  • Team name
  • Team leader (the manager)
  • Parent team (optional, for nested hierarchies)

Teams support parent-child relationships, so you can model your actual org chart:

Set up teams before adding users

Create your teams first so you can assign people to them as you add them. It's easier than going back and assigning teams after the fact.


Adding users

Navigate to Users in the admin sidebar to manage your team members.

For each user, you'll provide:

  • Name and email — The email must match what they'll log in with.
  • Role — Their Branco role (Admin, Manager, or Employee).
  • Title — Their job title.
  • Team — Which team they belong to.
Double-check email addresses

If the email you enter doesn't match the one the user logs in with, they won't be able to access their account. Verify this before saving.

Active vs. Inactive

Users have two states:

  • Active — Can log in, receives Slack bot messages, appears in reports.
  • Inactive — Can't log in, but their historical data (feedback, goals, 1:1 history) is preserved.

When someone leaves the organization, deactivate them instead of deleting them. This keeps your historical data intact for reports and feedback records.


Using BambooHR sync instead

If your organization uses BambooHR, you can skip manual user management and let the HRIS sync handle it:

  • Connect BambooHR in Integrations
  • The sync runs daily and brings in employee names, emails, managers, hire dates, and titles
  • New employees in BambooHR automatically appear in Branco
HRIS sync is one-way

Data flows from BambooHR into Branco, not the other way around. If you need to update a user's title or manager, make the change in BambooHR and let it sync over. Changes made directly in Branco may be overwritten on the next sync.


Export

You can export your full team list or user list as a CSV using the "Export CSV" button on either page — useful for audits or cross-referencing with other systems.
