Initial Setup

When you first log in to Branco, a setup wizard on the Dashboard guides you through the essential configuration steps. Here's what to expect.

The setup wizard

The Dashboard shows a Company Setup progress banner that tracks five steps. The banner persists until all steps are complete.

Step 1: Mission

Define your company's mission statement. This provides context across the platform and helps frame objectives and feedback.

Where: Company Settings → Company tab

Step 2: OKR

Set up your company and team-level objectives and key results. These drive feedback prompts and power performance reports.

Where: Team Objectives

Step 3: Values

Define your company values and the competencies (soft skills) that support them. These become the company-wide expectations every employee is evaluated against.

Where: Company Settings → Values & Competencies tab

Step 4: Skills

Set up your job functions (departments), roles within each function, and the technical skills expected for each role. These become the role-specific expectations on each person's career page.

Where: Company Settings → Functions & Skills tab

Step 5: Slack & IT

Connect the Branco Slack bot (for feedback collection) and optionally BambooHR (for employee data sync).

Where: Integrations

Follow the order

The wizard is laid out in the recommended order. Mission and values provide context for skills, which provide context for career paths. Slack comes last because the bot needs the framework in place to ask the right questions.

Before you start

Make sure you have:

  • Admin access to Branco (assigned during account creation)
  • Your company's mission statement ready (or a draft to refine later)
  • A list of company values and the soft skills/behaviors associated with each
  • Your job functions, roles, and technical skills mapped out (even roughly)
  • Slack workspace admin access (or someone who can authorize the bot)
  • BambooHR subdomain (if you're connecting HRIS sync)
Don't need everything perfect on day one

You can always come back and refine values, skills, and career paths later. It's better to get a reasonable first pass in and start collecting feedback than to delay until everything is perfect.
